Beta updates.

Your text no longer waits for the microphone.

Text doesn’t wait for the microphone: once in a while the Mac’s microphone took several seconds to stop after you let go, and your text waited for it. Now it doesn’t.
Round numbers as words: with Tidy or Format on, “a couple hundred”, “hundreds of” and “millions of” stay as words instead of turning into digits. Exact numbers stay as digits.
Easier time corrections: with Tidy or Format on, say “now, no wait, in the morning” and only the correction is kept.

One thing to try

With Tidy on, dictate “a couple hundred people came” and check it stays in words. If your text ever hangs after you let go of the key, tell us which microphone you were using.

Right-click the dictation that was wrong. Open the app menu and choose This was wrong… on a recent dictation.
Remove anything private. Edit the text and show the words or layout you wanted.
Choose whether to include the recording. Audio starts off. If available, listen first. Editing text does not change the audio.
Prepare the email, review it, then send. You decide what to share in your email app.

If the real example is private, make a short new dictation with made-up details. Open feedback on it before your next dictation if you want to include audio.

About sharing a sample

You can choose to email a reviewed sample. We are working on email layout, so the text you got, how you wanted it to look and the app you were writing in are especially helpful.

Audio is optional and off by default. Editing the text does not change or redact the recording. Listen first, and leave audio off if it contains anything private.

If you prepare an email with audio, Take Dictation keeps a temporary local copy so your email app can attach it. The app cleans that copy after an hour while running, or when you next open it. Your email app controls its own draft and attachment copies.

If your real example is private, make a short new dictation with made-up details. Open feedback on it straight away if you want to include audio. Text-only feedback works too.

Normal dictation stays on your Mac. Preparing feedback hands your chosen sample to your email app, whose provider may sync the draft before you send it. You can remove text or the attachment, cancel, or send when you are ready.

Optional Apple Writing Tools review uses Apple’s processing. Check names, amounts, dates and meaning before using the result.

Off, Tidy or Format?

Off: Transcription without cleanup.
Tidy: Cleans up fillers, punctuation, numbers and supported spoken corrections.
Format: Tidy, plus spacing for greetings, paragraphs, lists and sign-offs.

Try a correction:
“I’ll send the invoice on Tuesday, no, Wednesday.”
→ “I’ll send the invoice on Wednesday.”

Format adds layout, not a rewrite. Report any change to your meaning.

What to include in feedback

Use This was wrong… to include the text you got, the layout you wanted and the app you were using. The prepared email includes your version and cleanup mode.

Missing the first words? Add your microphone and its startup time from Settings. Wait for “Listening” before speaking.

You can also send a line or two through support. Share only what you are comfortable sending.
